Overview

When using a headset with a P-series desktop SIP phone (either via USB dongle or direct Bluetooth pairing), call control via the headset’s HOOK button may not work as expected. A common symptom is:

  • Incoming calls cannot be accepted via the headset HOOK button

  • Calls can be accepted using the Headset key on the phone

  • Audio is correctly routed to the headset

  • Call control otherwise works

This behavior is due to the headset not being activated on the phone after boot. The procedure below explains how to fully enable headset control.

After the headset is paired or the USB dongle is connected and the phone has fully booted, perform the following steps:

  1. Press the Headset key on the phone.

    • (Optional: insert image of the Headset key)

  2. The green LED on the Headset key will light up.

  3. Status icons will appear in the top-right corner of the phone display:

    • Headset via USB dongle: USB icon + Headset icon

    • Headset via Bluetooth: Bluetooth icon + Headset icon

To hear the ringtone in the headset for incoming calls, the correct ringer device must be configured.

Required setting:

  • Set Ringer Device for headset to:

    • Use Headset and Speaker, or

    • Use Headset

Location in Web GUI:

  • Preferences → Audio (tab)

  • Section: Ringtone defaults

  • Option: Ringer Device for headset

  • When the icons are visible, the headset is considered active and the HOOK button on the headset can be used to accept incoming calls.

  • This activation procedure must be repeated after every phone reboot or whenever the headset icons are not visible on the display.

Planned Behavior Change

There is an intention to change this behaviour so that the headset does not need to be manually activated after every phone reboot.

Summary

Connecting or pairing the headset alone is not sufficient. The headset must be explicitly activated using the phone’s Headset key after each reboot to enable full call control via the headset.
